TWRC Wildlife Center in Houston

April 20, 2014
While participating in the McDonald's Houston Children's Festival a few weeks ago I met a wonderful organization instrumental in the rehabilitation of injured animals in our area.  The Texas Wildlife Rehabilitation Coality (TWRC)  was Houston’s first urban wildlife emergency and rehabilitative care facility. Since its founding in 1979, they have had over 100,000 injured, orphaned, or ill wild animals pass through the hands of their caring volunteers.

I recently had the privilege of meeting an animal that I've never seen before, learned about his plight and how wonderfly he's beeing cared for through the TWRC.  My host was a charming young lady who told me all about the Blue Tonged Skink, fondly named 'Meatloaf'.  Meatloaf is a native of Australia and had become a domestic pet that eats fruits and veggies. He's very active during the day and is what is called diurnal animal.  Meatloaf can live up to 20 years as was brought to TWRC because his owners could no longer care for him.

My host assured me that they were working on rehabiliting Meatloaf and finding a wonderful home for him.
