The summer season is great for road trips. There is no better way to bond with family and friends than on a freeway excursion to your top destination. Corpus Christi is 206 miles via US-59 South from Houston, a little over three hours if you honor the speed limit. Let’s have a look at what the city of Corpus Christi has to offer its visitors.

 

Before you go, be sure to make arrangements for lodging. There are a plethora of family-friendly hotels throughout the city. Some of them will allow you to bring your pets so be sure to ask first. If you like the shoreline, and the price is not a factor, then consider the Hotel Corpus Christi Bayfront or the Omni Corpus Christi Hotel. Padre Island National Seashore separates the Gulf of Mexico from the Laguna Madre and is one of a few hypersaline lagoons in the world. It is a nesting ground for Kemp’s ridley sea turtle and a haven for 380 bird species. It has a rich history of the Spanish shipwrecks of 1554. It is also home to Schlitterbahn Riverpark Corpus Christi.

Texas is home to thousands of surfing aficionados. If you are one of them, then you must visit the Texas Surf Museum which opened in 2005. It explores the history of surfing in general and showcases the Lone Stare State’s unique place in that history. There’s more, if you enjoy horses, then you want to be sure and go horseback riding on the beach.

The Corpus Christi Harbor Bridge has a reputation for keeping you entertained as you drive over it at night. Please be sure to keep your eyes on the road while you enjoy the fantastic light display. Ask one of your passengers to take some cool pictures to share.

It’s time to eat! Corpus Christi is renowned for its seafood fair.
