Tips To Survive Working From Home In The Summer

By Syneetra A. Williams September 4, 2015

To commute to work or not commute is the question these days. According to Newsweek Magazine in 2015 US commuters spent approximately 42 hours in traffic jams. That is an entire week of work wasted away on the freeways, turnpikes, and expressways of America.

More and more people are giving up the stressful commute to their offices for the pressure-free one at home. “Working from home is becoming more prevalent within the corporate world.  From a productivity perspective, it cannot be beat,” said Damaris Mansfield, recruiting consultant.

Since the trend is moving toward flexible work hours and locations you may find that the company you serve may start to move in this direction. “Some of the benefits of working from home include less stress, more productivity, and more flexibility,” said Mansfield. If you take a look at the current career offerings online you will see that there are a plethora of jobs you can do right from your home.

If you are considering joining telecommuting generation, then please consider the following tips to survive working from home during the summer months.

  • Watch out for the urge to snack. After all, the refrigerator and all of your favorite munchies are just a few feet away. Avoid this temptation at all costs!
  • You may be tempted to work longer hours because you are in your own habitat which for some managers is not a bad thing. But, everyone needs to stretch, get up and enjoy the outdoors during the day. Enjoy the summer months do not let them pass you by.
  • Remember to stay active. While working from home in your loungewear you may be tempted to avoid going out for anything. Fight this urge by going to the gym, running errands, or meeting friends to socialize. Remember just because you work from home does not mean that you should isolate yourself from the outside world. Avoid getting into a rut you are still an active participant in your life.

Telecommuting offers you options that were not available 30 years ago. If you have a laptop and a WIFI connection then you are in business. “If you’re currently between jobs or perhaps a stay at home mom, dust off your entrepreneurial spirit and start your own small business!  There are many opportunities today that offer you the time and flexibility to go at your own pace.  It’s a good way to stay connected, plus earn a lucrative income,” said Mansfield.
