iFly - High-Flying Family Fun

August 1, 2015
I must admit I was skeptical of letting my little ones try iFly for the first time.  The enormous and unusual building that had been under construction and it's unique shape made me wonder about indoor skydiving for myself, but certainly not for my children at all.  As I walked into the iFly location with my two children my heart was racing and I said to myself, 'what kind of Mother let's her young children do this?'  ME!!!!

Recently my two children, a 5 year old little daughter and my 8 year old son, decided to see if it was as much fun as friends and family said it was.  From the time we entered the upstairs deck where we could see the glass enclosed cylinder with people flying high we were hooked.  My children took a seat and barely pried their eyes off the view of the amazing feats some of these experienced sky divers were maneuvering.  Thrilling and exhilarating are the only words to describe what we saw.

My children went into the classroom and learned the basic hand commands from a wonderful instructor, then suited up with their flight suits, helmets and goggles (they loved those special goggles).

They were ready to go, and off they went, one by one with an instructor that took them into the chamber and helped them fly.  The smiles on their faces said it all - Mom, you're the best for letting us do this.  Each of them took two turns and my son was able to fly all the way to the top of the cylinder with his instructor.  All I can say it was a magical moment for him, and for me too!  Here's a video of one of my little ones enjoying his flight, click here.

They were so excited when they exited the chamber and wanted to fly again so I let them sit there and watch for a few more minutes.  I'll never forget that one special moment when someone (possibly an instructor) in an all red jumpsuit entered the chamber, flew in circles, climbed to the top and summersaulted back to the bottom and then leaped to the glass right in front of my children.  Then flew backwards in such a quickened response - they must have thought this was Superman in front of them.

iFly is truly a unique activity for families to enjoy together or for experienced skydivers to perfect their skills.  iFly offers discounts for groups, and birthday parties as well.  Checkout their website for details and start flying!  https://houston.iflyworld.com/
